How does Yaware.TimeTracker actually work?
  • Yaware.TimeTracker collects data on software and sites which are used by each employee or department in general.
  • The statistics are then processed and presented as reports
Once installed on a computer, Yaware.TimeTracker client starts recording which software is used, which websites are browsed and for how long. Yaware.TimeTracker records only applications/tabs that are active. In other words, a user might be working with several resources/websites opened, but Yaware takes into account only the one which is being worked with at the moment.
What data exactly does Yaware.TimeTracker collect?
By default, Yaware.TimeTracker records the following data:
  • all software and applications used on a specific computer;
  • all websites visited;
  • duration of working with each program/application (start and end time indicated too);
  • user’s name and computer’s name/number.

How accurate is the data provided by Yaware.TimeTracker?
The data accuracy of the Yaware.TimeTracker stats is around 99%. We keep working to make the information even more accurate.
Where is the collected data stored in a physical sense?
Yaware.TimeTracker makes use of Amazon AWS infrastructure which is effective at dealing with significant loads plus allows flexible scaling. Yaware.TimeTracker uses specific servers which only authorized staff have access to. Each customer account has its own database for data storage.
What amount of traffic does Yaware client consume?
Yaware client delivers the collected data to its server by analyzing the Internet channel. For PCs using persistent Internet connection, Yaware.TimeTracker will have almost no impact on the connection speed. For non-permanent connections like dial-up, the channel speed may decrease insignificantly at times when the data is sent. Using Yaware with the option of taking screenshots and webcam snapshots deactivated, reduces the traffic consumption 5 to 7 times..

Which browsers does Yaware.TimeTracker is compatible with?
Yaware.TimeTracker is available for Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Opera and Microsoft Internet Explorer. We work continuously on increasing the number of browsers compatible with Yaware.TimeTracker.
s it necessary for users to install Yaware.TimeTracker on their computers?
Yes, it is. Without Yaware client installed, it is impossible to track time and productivity automatically, without manual data input.
How does Yaware.TimeTracker work without Internet connection?
In case Internet connection is lost, Yaware client saves the collected stats right on the computer. Once the connection is restored, the data will be sent over to the server. If there are too much data stored, the older archives are deleted automatically.
Why do I see “Remote Desktop Connection” in place of detailed statistics?
Remote Desktop Connection is typically shown when employees connect to the work terminal from other devices (for instance, if they work remotely). To track which apps and websites they actually use, it is necessary to follow the next procedure:

1. Install Yaware.TimeTracker on the terminal server.

For this, you need to use the authorized Administrator’s account. The service will then automatically collect data for each staff member working in his/her own terminal. In cases when this is not needed for individual employees, de-activate the corresponding option for them. Note. Terminal sessions lead to stats duplication. This means that the worked time will be assigned to both remote employee and the administrator.

2. Contact Yaware support center.

To correctly configure the time tracking options for employees working remotely via connecting to the terminal, please contact Yaware support center.
What does the stats collected via terminal sessions look like?
It is important to remember that the stats is duplicated during the terminal sessions. In layman’s terms,  the number of worked hours will be assigned to both remote employee and the administrator. The service on the terminal collects stats for each user automatically:

Users’ stats can be unified, but in this case the stats will be duplicated. This is because Yaware.TimeTracker collects also the stats for the apps used for creating remote desktop connection.
Is the time when an employee is away from the computer tracked or not?
If Yaware.TimeTracker detects that PC is not used for a certain time period (i.e., keyboard and mouse are inactive), it considers the first 120 seconds of inactivity as work with the latest active app/website. Afterwards, it stops tracking. These period will be reflected on the productivity chart as a gap. The paid version of Yaware.TimeTracker provides offline activitiy tracking feature. This means, an employee will have to fill in a quick form once back to the workplace. Basically, he/she indicates the type of offline activity: meeting, phone call, personal matter etc. By default, offline activitiy tracking is activated after 7 mins of computer inactivity.
How to distinguish work-related and personal activity at the computer?
It is especially important for remote employees and freelancers’ work monitoring. Here’s are two ways of making work and personal time distinct:

1. The remote employee creates 2 accounts on his/her computer

For instance, JohnHome and JohnWork. Yaware.TimeTracker recognizes users by their names and the names of their computers, so, it will create 2 active users (e.g., JohnHomeHomePC and JohnWorkHomePC). Then, you need to deactivate the user JohnHomeHomePC in your Yaware.TimeTracker account (just click the corresponding button as shown on the screenshot below). When done,  Yaware.TimeTracker will collect stats only on JohnWork account.





2. Activate a Stop monitoring option for the employee

In the Settings menu of your online account, activate the following option: Allow stop monitoring. Remote employee can simply stop monitoring when he/she is using their computer for personal matters.

How is the time tracked when there are many tabs opened in a browser?
Yaware.TimeTracker only records the time spent in the active tab. In other words, the service collects data only on the resources a user is focused on. For instance, employee can be listening to music from a player app working in the background, while making a report using a spreadsheet software. In this case, Yaware.TimeTracker only records the time on the active app.
